A new hybrid – Aranda Abiy Ahmed Zinash Tayachew

As I was updating the database today, I saw an interesting hybrid registered by my home country, Singapore!

The Singapore Botanic Gardens has named a new hybrid orchid in honor of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed, and First Lady Zinash Tayachew. This gesture symbolizes the strengthening of diplomatic relations and promotes goodwill between Singapore and Ethiopia. Hybrid orchids are often named after notable individuals as a tribute and to commemorate significant events or visits. This act highlights the importance of fostering international friendships and celebrating cultural exchanges through such botanical tributes.

The hybrid is a cross between Arachnis Maggie Oei (very popular cut flower) and Vanda Suksamran Spots.
